Principal - Saj Madni

Sajida Madni has been a qualified teacher since 2003, with experience teaching English, Religious Education, Law and Politics. She has served as Head of Sixth Form and been part of the senior management team at a local independent school, gaining wide-ranging experience in education and leadership. Alongside her teaching career, Sajida is Co-Director of Pembrokeshire Education and Community Empowerment (PEACE), where she plays a leading role in developing community projects and opportunities. She also brings insight from a background in law and community organising, where she has worked with young people and families to build confidence, develop leadership skills and encourage active participation in civic life. At Cherry Grove Learning Centre, she is committed to creating an environment where learning is inclusive, supportive and empowering.

Beyond her professional work, Sajida is a football enthusiast and a mother of two (and a cat), which adds plenty of energy and perspective to her busy life. Some of her proudest achievements include meeting both Queen Elizabeth II and Nelson Mandela, which she describes as her “biggest flex” and reminders of the importance of service, resilience and leadership.

Vice-Principal -Neil Atkin

Neil brings many years of experience in education, working across schools, community projects, and international organisations such as the Institute of Physics, Buckingham University and the Vietnamese and Malaysian Governments. He is also a published author and has led creative projects with partners including Arsenal FC, combining science, resilience, and real-world learning.

As Vice Principal at Cherry Grove, Neil’s philosophy is simple: every young person deserves to feel safe, valued, and inspired. He believes education is not just about exams, but about preparing learners with the confidence, critical thinking, and life skills they need to thrive. Known for his hands-on, engaging approach, Neil focuses on creating learning experiences that are practical, meaningful, and rooted in kindness and high expectations.

Neil is qualified to teach 7 different sporting activities and is a surfer, mountain biker, footballer, table tennis player  and  engages in almost every other sport you can think of 

Head of Lower School -Afia

Afia Ahmed is Head of Lower School and Pastoral Lead. She teaches Humanities at Cherry Grove Learning Centre and brings wide experience of working with young people from a variety of backgrounds. She has also worked as a youth worker, supporting children and teenagers to develop confidence and resilience. Afia is the Pastoral Head and Deputy Safeguarding Lead at Cherry Grove, where she plays a central role in creating a caring and inclusive environment for every learner. She is also Co-Director of Pembrokeshire Education and Community Empowerment (PEACE) and was instrumental in establishing Cherry Grove Learning Centre. In addition, Afia is Director of the Outdoor and Discovery School, the centre’s enrichment programme that connects pupils not only with nature and adventure learning but also with the wider community and a range of partner organisations.

Away from her professional work, Afia is a mother of three daughters, and her fun-loving nature and sense of humour are well known to colleagues, pupils and families alike. She enjoys watching documentaries and has a natural ability to make people feel at ease. Her leadership, energy and compassion help to shape Cherry Grove as a place where pupils feel supported, connected and inspired to grow.

Numeracy Coordinator - Lottie Forester

Lottie Forester is Cherry Grove’s Head of Maths and Numeracy and a qualified teacher with experience of working with pupils from the ages of 3 to 18. She has a natural ability to make mathematics engaging and enjoyable for everyone, helping learners to see the subject as both accessible and rewarding.

Known for her compassionate and supportive approach, Lottie creates a learning environment where pupils feel encouraged to explore, ask questions and gain confidence in their numeracy skills. Her commitment to making maths meaningful ensures that every learner can achieve their full potential.

Beyond the classroom, Lottie is the proud mother of two boys. She has a love of the outdoors and spends much of her free time sailing, often heading out onto the water most weekends.

Head of English and Drama - Amy Lewis

Amy Lewis began her teaching career in a large boarding school in England, a busy and pressurised environment. Although she had not imagined returning to her home county of Pembrokeshire and working in smaller specialist settings, that is exactly what she has done over the past seven years.

During this time, Amy has greatly enjoyed working with a wide range of pupils, supporting them to feel calm and confident in their learning. She encourages creativity and a sense of enjoyment while helping pupils to develop skills they will use throughout their lives. For those considering exam courses, Amy works closely alongside them to foster a strong sense of achievement, whatever their individual goals may be.

Outside of school, Amy is passionate about the outdoors and can often be found horse riding, cycling, running or swimming in the sea. This summer she even completed a tandem cycle ride from Cardiff to Tenby. She is also a classically trained viola player and may soon be seen performing on stage.

Examinations Officer - Grace Embra

Grace Embra has been teaching since 2021 and is Cherry Grove’s Examinations Officer, ensuring that all assessments are well organised and run smoothly. With her calm yet highly efficient manner, Grace is the go-to person for everything relating to examinations.

Alongside this key role, Grace is also the Designated Safeguarding Person at Cherry Grove, safeguarding the wellbeing of all pupils. She is Head of PE and Sport, where her energy and enthusiasm inspire learners to enjoy being active, and she also teaches Religious Education, encouraging thoughtful discussion and reflection.

Grace is passionate about sport and plays netball regularly. Away from the sports hall, she enjoys reading about history and exploring the past, bringing the same curiosity and depth of interest to her teaching.
