Welcome to Cherry Grove Learning Centre

Cherry Grove Learning Centre: A Safe Start to a Strong Future

Some young people simply cannot thrive in large, busy school settings. Anxiety, phobias, sensory needs, medical conditions or past trauma may all prevent them from accessing full-time education.

At Cherry Grove Learning Centre, we provide a calm, compassionate environment with ultra-small group teaching, personalised study plans, and wraparound emotional and academic support.

We are not a mainstream school — we are an alternative learning provision with a focus on recovery, re-engagement, and readiness.

For many of our learners, this is their first positive experience of education in years.

We work in close partnership with families, local authorities, professionals, and national agencies such as Welsh Rugby Union, Cricket Wales, and Sport Wales to ensure no child is left behind.

Who is it for?

Cherry Grove Learning Centre is designed for:

  • Anxious or school-phobic students
  • Students recovering from trauma
  • Young people with diagnosed or undiagnosed ALN
  • Home-educated students looking for part-time structured learning
  • Learners with poor attendance or those not currently attending school

We welcome students from across Pembrokeshire and beyond, with placements agreed privately or via local authorities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can make a referral to Cherry Grove?

Referrals can be made by local authorities, schools, social workers, or other professionals supporting the child or young person. Parents and carers are also welcome to contact us for guidance on the process.

What type of programmes do you offer?

We focus on creating a programme tailored for the needs of each of our students rather than trying to fit them into a ready-made curriculum. For some, this is very academic and based on getting qualifications, for others, it is reigniting curiosity and a zest for life, often after not having been in formal education for a long time. Our small class sizes allow us to create a bespoke and supportive programme.

What age range do you support?

We work with children and young people aged 3 to 18, across primary, secondary and post-16 education.

What kind of learners attend Cherry Grove?

Our students include those with anxiety or school phobia, additional learning needs, or those who have found mainstream school challenging. We also support pupils who are currently educated other than at school (EOTAS).

What qualifications can students achieve?

Depending on their ability and goals, students can work towards GCSEs, Functional Skills, BTECs and Entry Level Pathways.

How long do placements last?

Placements vary depending on the needs of each learner.

How are parents and local authorities kept informed?

For students referred by a local authority, we provide regular communication and progress reports to the referring officer to ensure full transparency and collaboration. For students who join us privately or through other routes, we share information only with parents or carers and do not disclose details to external bodies without consent.

What does it mean being a Non-Profit Organisation? ?

Our motivation is to change the lives of young people. Any profits made are invested back into Cherry Grove to expand and improve our services.

What support do you provide beyond academics?

Our approach includes mentoring, emotional regulation, wellbeing sessions and therapeutic support to help each learner thrive both academically and personally. For post-16 learners, we offer access to our Employability Hub, which provides training in CV writing, interview techniques and access to internships with local businesses to prepare students for working life. We also offer tailored guidance for those aspiring to higher education, including full support with university applications through UCAS and beyond.

Is transport available?

We do not currently provide transport, but we work closely with families and local partners to help find suitable arrangements. We hope to offer our own transport provision in the near future.

Are you part of the local authority?

No, Cherry Grove is an independent learning centre run by a non-profit community interest company, Pembrokeshire Education and Community Empowerment (PEACE). We are not managed by the local authority, but we work closely with local councils, schools and professionals to provide high-quality alternative education placements that meet local needs.
